MWCT Opens First Round of Granting

Mount Wellington Charitable Trust (MWCT) is pleased to announce the opening of the first round of grant applications.

Mount Wellington Licensing Trust (MWLT), which controls the charitable entity, underwent significant changes earlier this year when selling the hotel and hospitality properties it had previously operated.

Since then, the proceeds of the property sales have been invested in diversified investment portfolios which have been providing steady returns to fuel a more consistent and reliable form of return to the local community.

To support the new approach, MWCT have partnered with two of the best in the business - Māpua Wealth, supporting the multi-generational Investment strategy, and Perpetual Guardian, who will guide and administer the Granting activity.

Applications open on Monday 8 December and will close Friday 13 February 2026 - applications will then be assessed with outcomes known by late March.

There are two main criteria to be eligible to apply:

  1. Benefit residents of the Mount Wellington Licensing Trust area

  2. Meet one or more purposes of the Mount Wellington Charitable Trust Deed

For the first round, there are two types of grant that can be applied for:

GENERAL GRANT - organisations may apply for grants to support the costs of operating their service. MWCT wishes to empower organisations to apply for what they need most and tell MWCT why that is their priority and how it impacts the local community. There will be $360,000 available for General Grants in the first funding round, with no single organisation able to receive more than 10% ($36,000) of the total available.

LEGACY GRANT - exclusively for the first round, MWCT wishes to support a small number of organisations who may submit a proposal for a project that will have significant and lasting impact in the local community. $360,000 will be available to support Legacy Grants and MWCT foresees that 3-5 projects may benefit from this, enabling more significant and impactful support to be given.

MWCT encourages early engagement from organisations wishing to pursue a Legacy Grant and in the first instance contact should be made via email.

Organisations may apply to both forms of grant however if successful will only be eligible to receive a grant from one category.

Interested applicants should refer to the Granting page of the MWCT website for more detailed application information and guidance.
