Investment

Following the sale of business assets in 2025, capital has been invested in diversified portfolios held by Mount Wellington Charitable Trust and Mount Wellington Trust Hotels to generate consistent return to the community.

How the funds are invested, performance targets and guidance on utilising the returns are guided by a Statement of Investment Policy Objectives (SIPO) which is available to view below.

Allowances are made for the portfolios to grow with inflation, retaining their real value, and further allowance for the portfolios to grow in line with population growth. What is spent on granting and overheads is capped (over a rolling five-year average).

Our Partner - Māpua Wealth

Māpua Wealth is a New Zealand investment consulting firm that helps clients create long-term wealth through strategic financial planning and investment strategies.

Māpua serves a diverse clientele including iwi, Māori organisations, financial advisers, charities, foundations, KiwiSaver and pension providers, and fund managers.

Its point of difference lies in its culturally integrated and responsible investment approach, combined with a focus on long-term, multi-generational prosperity.

Māpua believes that investors who manage Environmental, Social, Governance, and Cultural (ESGC) factors perform better over the long term and is a key part of their manager selection and monitoring process.

Their investment philosophy combines passive funds for cost efficiency with active managers in areas they believe are inefficient, giving them potential to add value beyond market indexes. Portfolios are designed to be well-diversified across asset classes, securities, and risk factors.
