Investing in Our Community

Formed in 1964, the Mount Wellington Charitable Trust (MWCT) is the charitable distribution arm of the Mount Wellington Licensing Trust (MWLT).

MWCT is controlled by MWLT, an organisation with publicly elected members from the local community who serve three year terms.

The MWLT is a community-owned organisation established in 1960 to control alcohol sales and direct profits back to the community. MWLT operates within the suburbs of Mount Wellington and Panmure under the framework of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.

Historically, grants came from business profits generated by hotel and hospitality businesses, before they were sold in 2025.

The proceeds of those sales have been diversified into investment portfolios, with more reliable returns now allowing a consistent grant-making programme to be established.

Guided by Trusted Partners
